De La Salle Scout Group
Recruitment

Scouting is the largest youth movement in the world and both Waterford City and the De La Salle Scout Group have a long tradition in Scouting. It is a tradition that has adapted to and embraced the needs and demands of young people today. The Group was founded in 1928 and consists of a Beaver Colony, two Macaoimh (Cub Scout) Packs, three Scout Troops, a Venturer Group as well as a Scout Pipe Band. We offer a unique blend of activities and experiences to our members with a special emphasis on adventure and the outdoors. The Scout Method is in learning through doing and we believe that participation in Scouting is a worthwhile and enjoyable outlet for all young people.

De La Salle Beavers
Beaver Scouts are our Junior Section for those aged 6 to 8. The programme is based around fun and discovery and for Beavers, the emphasis is on meeting and interacting with people of their own age. The Beavers meet every Monday (7th) and Tuesday (3rd) between 6.00pm and 7.00pm. Some of the activities enjoyed at Beaver meetings include active and quiet games, stories, creative crafts, singing, drama and nature study. About once a month there are special events and activities which include walks, visits and parties. The 3rd De La Salle Beaver Colony is headed up by Ray Smith and his assistants Paul Moran, Fiona Walshe and Veronica Murphy, while the 7th Beaver Colony is led by Stacia Coughlan and her assistants Mary Winters, Clare White and Laura Burke.

De La Salle Macaoimh
Cub Scouting is a fun and adventurous programme for young people aged 8 to 10 years of age. Cub Scouts are encouraged to work, play and grow together through a programme of games, crafts, nature study and adventurous activities in the outdoors which are designed to match the vivid imagination of young people of this age. Our Programme consists of a meeting once a week (on Monday or Tuesday) from 7.30 to 9.00pm at our Den in Stephen Street. There are also day activities, visits and occasional weekend activities. We have a strong leadership team led by Teena Casey in the 7th Pack and David Guilfoyle in the 3rd Pack.

De La Salle Scouts
The Scout section caters for young people aged between 10 and 16. Our Programme consists of a weekly meeting once a week (held on Wednesdays or Thursdays) from 7.30 to 9.00pm at our Den in Stephen Street consisting of games, scout skills and a progress scheme. There are also day activities and occasional weekend activities based on camping, hillwalking, water activities, adventure and most of all fun.

De La Salle Scout Pipe Band
Anyone interested in learning the bagpipes or the drums is welcome to become a member of the band. The band is open to all of cub, scout and venture age and to any adults who are prepared to commit to the scout law and promise. If you are interested in joining the band you can contact Pat Murphy at practice on a Monday night or talk to any leader.
