Irish National Youth Pipe Band Concert

February 21st 2009 at Siemosa Tire in Tralee Co Kerry.

On Friday evening February 20th 2009 ten youth members of the De La Salle Scout Group Pipe Band supported by a number of adults travelled to Tralee in Co Kerry to prepare for the NYPB concert to be held the following day.  On midday on Saturday the full cast of 108 players from seventeen bands from all over Ireland gathered in the theatre to practice and prepare for the concert.  The theatre was well suited for the concert and was very comfortable for both the performers and the audience.

For several hours the cast worked hard to perfect the pieces they were to perform at the concert and also to achieve an excellent sound from the pipes and drums.

Then after the long practice and under the direction of Brian Mc Mahon the Principle of the College of Piping in Ireland, the band gathered on stage at 8 p.m. and entertained a full house for the following two hours.

The concert concluded with the performers receiving a standing ovation from the very appreciative crowd and the De La Salle pipers and drummers adjourned for some very well deserved refreshments.

On Sunday morning the tired but very happy performers returned to the four corners of Ireland and they will again come together later this year to begin preparations for the National Youth Pipe Band’s next concert to be held in Letterkenny Co Donegal on February 20th 2010.
