One of the things which makes scouting unique in Waterford is the existence of the Scout Pipe Band connected to the De La Salle Group. It was decided at a Group Council meeting on December 15th 1933 that the Group would have the first pipe band attached to a Scout Group in Ireland and on May 15th 1934 the Pipe Band made it's very first public appearance. For the full story, check out our History page.

The Pipe Band has now completed over 75 years of service to Waterford and continues to make a unique contribution to the Waterford Scout County. Today Pat Murphy is Pipe Major and the band regularly participates in group, county and national events. It also makes regular public appearances at venues all over Waterford City. You can view a full list of the selections and tunes we play here. In the last years we have also undertaken a number of major expeditions. You can read the official accounts of these trips and see loads of photos on our Lorient 2009, Scotland 2007, World Jamboree 2007, Scotland 2006 and Scotland 2005 pages.

Over the years, the band has had many members who have learned and gained enjoyment from it and the De La Salle Scout Group are proud that after 75 years it has maintained and continues to support a band which adds to both the Group's culture and it's strength.
