Scotland 2007

In 2007 the Scout Group Pipe Band made its third trip to Scotland and as it had
already taken part in the World Scout Jamboree in Sussex in England in July the
band did not travel to Scotland until later in August which gave it an
opportunity to take part in a number of different events than it had done on the
previous two trips. Again courtesy of the North Berwick Scout Group the band
stayed at their premises and linked up with the North Berwick Pipe Band on a
number of occasions during their visit. Included in the trip was the usual visit
to the Edinburgh Tattoo which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The band also
attended the Cowal Highland Games in Dunoon which is held annually on the west
side cost of Scotland and is one of the major pipe band competitions held
annually around the world. In fact in the early part of the last centaury it was
actually the World Pipe Band Competition. The band members attending enjoyed the
entire event and particularly enjoyed the performance of the St Laurence O
Toole’s a Grade 1 Pipe Band from Dublin.

On the Sunday the band travelled to Floors castle in the central lowlands of
Scotland and it played with ten other pipe bands. After the usual tuning up
period the band took part in a practice when the marching and playing
requirements were gone through with the Pipe Major and Drum Major of the day.

Then the massed pipe band performed on two occasions during the day.

When all the playing was over it was time to have a photo taken of the band with our hosts the North Berwick Pipe Band.

The band made its third visit to Leuchie House to play for the patients and staff. It is always an honour and a privilege for the band to play at this venue.

The band also performed at the Sea Bird Center in North Berwick and the performance was enjoyed by the large crowd who gathered to listen.

The Band is also is delighted with the support is gets from parents and family members who so often travel with it.

During the trip the band also had a very enjoyable day in Edinburgh where the annual festival was drawing to a conclusion.

To conclude the trip the band had an evening out in North Berwick and some members of the band tried their hand at playing the small pipes. These are a much quieter instrument and the bag is filled using a bellows. The various sounds that were produced were very interesting.

Thus concluded another enjoyable and successful
band trip to Scotland.
