Welcome to the online troop log of the 7th Waterford De La Salle Scout Troop for 2005. You can also see what we got up to in 2004, 01/02, 00/01, 99/00 and in 98/99. The troop was founded way back in 1931 and has seen many scouts and leaders over that time. Today, Billy Collins is the Scoutleader and Patrice Doyle, Alan Robinson and Kenneth Rouse are the Assistant Scoutleaders. The troop has a core of about thirty scouts which are divided up into four patrols (Hawk, Wolf, Panther and Cobra).

We meet every Wednesday night from 7.30pm to 9.00pm and like our brother De La Salle troop, the 3rd, a lot of our programme is based in the outdoors and it is mostly the non meeting night activities we give below. Read on and you'll see what we mean!

Troop Hike - 6th of March 2005
On Sunday the 6th of March 2005 the troop went on a hike to Faithlegg. We met in the den at ten o' clock. When we had all arrived we left for Faithlegg. When we got to the Dunmore Road, Barry Kelly had the idea of waving to the people in their cars while we waited for people to come out from the Londis shop at Ballinakill. Most people waved back at us. When everyone came out of the shop we started walking again. We got out to Faithlegg at about half past twelve. When we arrived Billy taught us how to do "backwoods cooking". We collected firewood and lit fires. When the fires were lit Billy taught us how to prepare the food. We cooked eggs, rashers, sausages, apples and oranges with chocolate. When the cooking was done we feasted on some delicious food. After eating we had to have the well deserved game of manhunt. When the game was done it was four o' clock and time to go home. This was one of my favourite hikes with the 7th because the cooking was very interesting and the hike itself was a lot of fun. Attendance: Billy Collins, Patrice Power, Darragh O'Callaghan, Michael Kavanagh, Emmet Power, Eoin Kelly, Lucy Power, Kieran Kelly, Eoghan O'Sullivan, Caitriona Collins, Barry Kelly and Jack Power.
Troop Overnight - 21st - 22nd January 2005

Above: Eoin Kelly shows off his climbing technique at the Rathgormack Climbing Wall.
The Rathgormac Hiking Centre was the venue for a quick troop overnight at the end of January It's an excellent spot located at the foothills of the Comeragh Mountains and has a climbing wall, large hall as well as a kitchen, showers and dormitory accommodation. We got there at about 7.00pm and got stuck into the climbing wall at the back of the hall and nearly everybody gave it a go. There were a few exceptional performers with Eoin Kelly and Graham showing amazing technique with Declan demonstrating the best endurance. Only Shane eventually surmounted the overhang. In the speed climbing competition Graham took the U-13 prize while Shane took the U-16.

Indoor soccer and basketball was followed by a mad battle game with many many balls, we ate more, made plenty of noise and a few people even went to sleep. The next morning we had a good breakfast in preparation for our hike to Loch Mohra beneath Knockanafrinn. It was a very wet morning and every crossroads we met in the forest gave us a choice of up or down but we always picked up. Eventually we made it to Loch Mohra but we retreated back into the shelter of the forest quickly for a bit of lunch before battling our way back down to the cars.
