Troop Hike to Mahon Falls - 14th June 2009

Our hike in Coum Mahon took us up the centre of the falls before swinging right on the summit of Cnoc an Aifrinn, From there the senior expert mountaineers and navigators were dispatched to the highest point in the Comeraghs - Point 792 which is above Fauscoum and Coumshingaun. Their mission was to retrieve a statue that had mysteriously appeared there.  There was a bit of cloud on the plateau but it wasn't far so surely they would either find it or never be seen again.. The rest departed for the long ridge which runs down the right hand side of Coum Mahon. Paschal had disappeared also but when he reappeared was sent to check on the progress of the statue retrievers who were now a little overdue. The lads had found the statue on their way back from the Coum Iarthar lakes (ahem).  More compass work to follow.

Troop Overnight in Faithlegg - 22nd - 23rd May 2009

Friday: On Firday the 22nd of May the 3rd went on an overnight stay to Faithlegg.  The first thing we did was pitch the tents.  After that we went on a hike up the Minaun.  Everyone went except Dean and Cheevers, as they set up the campfire.  The campfire was some laugh!! We sang loads of songs and we (the girls) did the Hoedown Throwdown.  Then we went up to the den and had chips and sausages.  We stayed in the den for a while and then we went into our tents and went to sleep (maybe).

Saturday: Friday night we got very little sleep. We got up at about 5 o’clock.  We woke Cheevers up by going into the bathroom.  When we came out of the bathroom we went down to the forest.  We didn’t stay down there for very long, but when we went back, some of the boys were up.  Cheevers came out of the den at like 6 o’clock and collapsed Jordan, Richard and Jacks tent.  He blammed it on us evern though HE DID collapse their tent!  After a while Cheevers, Bill, Richard and Jordan decided to play switch and more or less locked us out of the den. (while Ginter and Sid were asleep)  Pascal came at 9 o’clock and we had breakfast.  We had cocopops, toast and tea.  After breakfast we built tripods to put a barbeque on it.  It started lashing and Faithlegg Scouts came along at about 2 o’clock.  We finished the tripods, 4 people including Pascal fryed burgers on the barbeque while in the kitchen we made dessert. Problems with the lunch: Burgers = Really really, really burnt.  I couldn’t eat it.  Dessert = Bananas with chocolate in them.  The bananas tasted like the burgers, kinda burntMost of us didn’t do anything else until we went home at 4 o’clock.

County Shield - 24th - 26th April 2009

The 2009 Waterford Scout County Shield took place from the 24th to the 26th April 2009 in Rathgormack Co. Waterford. It was certainly a challenging event with plenty of rain and definitely the muddiest field that was ever camped in the history of the County. Both our scout troops put in an excellent effort with the 7th troop coming second and ourselves coming in fourth. The event was won by St. Pauls and Ferrybank came 3rd. The De La Salle Scout Group also used the event to present to the County a new memorial trophy for cooking skills in honour of the late John Hennebry. JD as he was known to all was a master camp grubber and fittingly the event was won by his old troop the 3rd De La Salle. See our County Challenge 2009 Gallery page for more photos.
