The Summer is never a quiet time for the Unit and this year was no exception. After the Louis Murphy competition in June, Camp ’99 was the focus of attention with Lough Dan being our base of operations. It proved to be a great camp with very enjoyable activities provided at Lough Dan such as canoeing, rafting, assault course, archery and rock climbing. We also took in Luggala and the surrounding mountains on what was a hot and gruelling hike. Full details are available on our Camp ’99 post. In August, the 3rd Scout troop took part in the 1999 Melvin Competition based at Larch Hill and the Glen of Imaal. It was an interesting competition and the 3rd finished an excellent fourth place. Congratulations to Paschal and the Scouts involved. Needless to say St. Pauls won the competition for an unparalled eighth time. Congratulations to Pat O’Connor and his team.
